Grade Four Success

by Jacky on July 10, 2014

Our Wakefield trainer, Stevie Allerton, has sent us these lovely photographs of Lee Birkitt and his fantastic cocker spaniel, Ellie who recently took their Grade Four test with our assessor, Tony Allerton ( below left).

Birkitt2

The Grade Four assessment seeks to demonstrate that a dog’s hunting, obedience and retrieving skills have come together to form the beginnings of a strong working relationship between dog and handler.

The test includes four retrieves.  Two proceeded by a dummy throw and shot, one blind up to 20 yards and another is over a small jump (see Ellie in action below).

Birkitt1Lee has trained Ellie mostly on his own with the occasional one to one lesson with Stevie.  He has worked his way through the grades, starting at Grade One through to Grade Four, culminating in a Distinction, with a fantastic score of 90/100, for his Grade Four.

Stevie said ‘Lee and Ellie have been great to work with and he has trained her to a standard that will be an asset to any shoot’.  Very well done to you both.
