March brought the spring
weather and sixteen people to Leeming Bar to attend
the second gundog weekend held by CAST dog training.
Saturday was split into training sessions building
on the dogs and handlers previous knowledge.
Exercises included basic commands, heelwork, stays,
steadiness, retrieves and hunting skills, in
preparation for their assessments.
Sunday was an exciting day
with Grade 1 and Grade 2 being assessed and the
opportunity to undertake the Kennel Club Good
Citizen Bronze level. Assessor, Graham Slater
from the Gundog Club commented that one of the
spaniels received the highest scores he had ever
given and was pleased with the enthusiasm of all the
people attending. (Well done Matt and Teal)
A variety of breeds took
part in the weekend: Brittany, Cocker Spaniels,
Springer Spaniels, Italian Spinone, Labradors,
Spanish Water Dog and Weimaraners. A
great weekend was had by all and the dogs
participating achieved their individual grades some
with very high marks, those that took the Kennel
Club Good Citizen Bronze level also passed.
The next Gundog weekend will be held on 11 September
2010, for further details contact Caroline at Cast
