The Gundog Club will endeavour to achieve the following

To raise standards of skill and behaviour amongst working and pet gundogs
For every gundog fulfilling his potential in the field there are many who fail to do so. Every dog in the field deserves the chance to be a capable member of the team, every pet dog deserves the chance to experience the joys of fieldwork

To encourage more people to discover the pleasure of gundog fieldwork
Many owners of pet gundogs would really enjoy training their dog for fieldwork if they only knew how. For those already attracted to fieldwork, the goal of competing in a field trial can seem to be an impossible dream. Staged training can help make that dream an achievable goal.

To help those who are struggling to complete their dog’s field training
Novice trainers often do not know where to begin, how to progress, or what they should be aiming for. The Graded Training Scheme provides a clear training path to help all inexperienced trainers succeed.

To enable gundog owners to take a pride in the progress of their dogs
Each level in the Graded Training Scheme is a little more challenging than the last and provides motivation to continue the training process and reward for each achievement made.

To promote a simple and standardised training programme
The ‘Training for Gundogs’ training guides explains in clear and detailed progression how to move your dog from each grade to the next in steady achievable steps

To provide a documented record of each working dog’s level of ability
Information about a dog’s ability before it becomes a member of a shoot team will be invaluable to keepers and shoot managers everywhere. It will save the all too often embarrassment of having to ask someone ‘not to bring their dog again’

To celebrate and promote competence in gundogs in the shooting field
A competent dog is a joy to watch and a source of great pride to his owners. Lets make more of them

To help secure the future of the working gundog in Great Britain for the pleasure of generations of dogs and handlers to come
In an increasingly urbanised society, all fieldsports are at risk. Recruiting more participant’s to this great sport will also help secure it’s future
