Started:
Basic equipment
You will need only minimal
equipment to get started with gundog training.

The
Gundog Club has produced some books for beginners to
gundog training. It is important that you buy
the right book. For puppies under 5 months old
you will need
The Right
Start.
For dogs over 5 months, choose
Passing Grade One.
This will give you all the information you need to
take your dog up to the standard of the very first
Gundog Club Field Test Award.
Retrieving dummy
For puppies under
five months you will need a
1/2lb retrieving dummy.
For dogs
over five months old you will need a
1lb retrieving dummy
Whistle and sliplead*
Not
essential for small puppies, but by the time your
dog is four or five months old, you will
also need a
gundog sliplead,
and a
gundog whistle.
*For safety reasons, gundogs at work should never
wear a collar
