Retriever tests:
are aimed at specialised retrieving breeds such as
Labradors, and Golden Retrievers.
Hunting Retriever tests:
are aimed at the spaniel breeds. These are
dual purpose close hunting dogs
that are also expected to retrieve.
HPR tests: are aimed at
the versatile hpr breeds. Hunting dogs that
range wider than the spaniels, and that are expected
to point, and to retrieve.
Cross bred dogs may also enter
the tests. You can choose which category to
train under and should take your dog's temperament
into account. A hard hunting very fidgety
retriever-cross
may do better with the spaniel tests. A very
placid spaniel-cross may be happier with the
retriever tests. If in doubt,
one of our instructors can assess your dog and
advise you.
