Vet warning:  dogs suffer horrific injuries playing with sticks !

news report 29th December 2008

Throwing a stick for your dog to chase is for many dog owners, part of the fun of owning a dog. However a study at the Royal Veterinary College into both acute and chronic stick injuries has shown that injuries caused when dogs catch or play with sticks, can be very serious indeed. Vet bills can run into thousands of pounds and even with the best treatment, dogs may die as a result of their injuries.

What are the alternatives?

Many dogs love to play fetching games,  and none more so than most of our favourite gundog breeds,  particularly the retrievers and spaniels.

You can protect your Labrador or any other breed of dog that likes to fetch and carry by providing him with a purpose made retrieving dummy.  These are available in our shop.  Gundog trainers have used canvas retrieving dummies for many years. They are designed for a dog to carry safely in his mouth. They are too large to swallow,  and will not damage your dog's mouth or teeth.

Please note: Retrieving dummies are not chew proof, and should be removed from the dog at the end of the game.
