Nearly six hours sleep.  Lottie slept from 11pm until 5:15 this morning.  Most of our puppies have had this sort of pattern,  some can last a little longer,  others not as long.  There are of course puppies that can last 7 or 8 hours a night at this age,  but they always belong to someone else!

Lottie is eight weeks old today and I do believe she has grown noticeably since we bought her home.

Meeting Bella

At this stage I just want her to get used to associating her name with the act of running towards me.   Once she reaches me I will give her a cuddle and a few bits of the kibble in my pocket.   The whole family know this game and no-one will call the puppy in any other way.  If we need her,  we simply go and pick her up.

A much more confident puppy met yet another of our dogs today.  Bella is a one year old lab and very bouncy, so we  got her to sit quite still whilst the pup investigated this new big dog.  Lottie looks quite assertive in this picture, if anything it is Bella who looks concerned.    I got Bella to walk at heel around the patio and Lottie trotted after us both  quite happily.   Meeting other dogs is becoming an everyday occurence for her!    Just Annie (the Springer) to go now.

we can leave the crate door open all day

We can leave the crate door open all day now as she does not seem to be at all destructive,  prefering her rawhide bone to the chair and table legs.  Quite a nice change from previous retrievers,  I have always found my labrador puppies to have the chair leg demolishing powers of a beaver.

She is also the first puppy I have had in a long time that does not destroy and swallow her bedding.  Which means that we have been able to leave her with vet bedding in her basket at night.

Lottie's daily food ration is divided into four.  From today I am giving her three meals and the fourth portion is in my pocket.   I will be giving her this portion bit by bit as a reward for coming to find me when I call her name.

To begin with, I will only say Lottie's name when I have attracted her attention in some way and she is already approaching me
